Club News

As usual this Kiwanis year, we have been busy fund-raising twice monthly at Bingo sessions and selling Christmas items - cakes, nuts, shortbread and truffles. We have worked for North York Harvest Food Bank, the Kiwanis Music Festival, UNICEF and the Salvation Army (kid's Christmas Party) and in addition have made donations to the Festival: North York General Hospital (Kiwanis Young Moms and Babies programme and Teddy Bears for young in-patients); Rhett Foundation and Toronto Fire Services (for Risk Watch safety programme for students).

On April 1, during the CBC Easter Seals Telethon, our President handed a cheque for $10,000 to the Easter Seal Society to launch the North York Kiwanis Albert Kokotow Memorial Endowment Fund to buy musical instruments for the Society's Woodeden Summer Camp near London, Ontario. We have also agreed to support the "Future Aces" programme at Yorkwoods Public School, 25 Yorkwoods Gate, Toronto. This project is aimed at improving reading skills of young students and fostering their interest in books.

On the morning of April 14, members of the club will be leading a clean-up blitz of G. Ross Lord Park (Dufferin & Finch) under supervision of staff of Toronto Parks department. Come and join us at 9 a,m, Gloves and refreshment will be supplied.
